Cosmetic packaging design for skincare and beauty brands

Serums, creams, sets and droppers each need their own box: the right opening, the right board weight, room for the mandatory text. Grapxo draws the box and its dieline from your brief, lays the artwork on it in vector, and exports files your printer can use.

Category needs

INCI lists, warnings, and brand promise must fit small panels. In cosmetics, a restrained language that matches materials and finish usually works best.

Label + box

Bottle label and outer carton belong in one system. Related pages: label design and box design.

Serums and droppers

A serum or dropper bottle is narrow and tall, and the box is sized from the bottle with its dropper or pump on. Note net ml, bottle diameter and height, and cap type in the brief; Grapxo does not invent measurements. The serum and cream box page covers the carton, and the dropper and airless box brief lists the fields to fill in.

Cream jars and their labels

A cream jar usually carries a wrap or spot label, plus an outer carton when it ships or is given as a gift. Add the jar diameter, the label height and the overlap to the brief. The cream jar label page explains wrap versus spot and how to arrange the ingredient list on a small face.

Set boxes

A set box gathers several products under one outer face. List which products sit in which order, whether an insert holds the bottles, and what the outer panels say. See skincare set box design for what to write into the brief.

Private-label label sets

A line of many variants needs a system, not one-off labels: one master grid and a fixed legal block, with only the product name, volume and shade changing. The private-label cosmetic label set page shows how to write that into the brief.

Board weight

Board weight changes how a box folds and feels in the hand, so settle it before the dieline is final. There is no single correct gsm; your printer’s advice and a sample decide. See cosmetic box board weight.

The step-by-step version

This page stays at category level. How to design a cosmetic box walks through eight steps from measurement to print.

Frequently asked questions

Does this page also cover serum and cream boxes?

This cosmetic packaging page frames the category. The serum and cream box page goes deeper on those products; both lead into the studio.

Should label and box be designed together?

On most cosmetics SKUs the bottle label and outer carton share one brand system. Use the label and box pages together when needed.

Does Grapxo generate images?

No. Grapxo is a vector design engine: brief → dieline + artwork. If you only need a moodboard image, other tools may fit better.

Is the INCI list added automatically?

No. Copy accuracy is the brand’s responsibility. The studio helps you leave readable space on small panels.
