How do you choose board weight for a cosmetic box?
Gsm and caliper change fold feel, edge hand and finish behaviour. Grapxo builds vector dielines; it does not pick or invent gsm—it is not an image generator.
Material before dieline
Instead of writing “approx box”, note stock type and target hand-feel. The same dieline feels different at different gsm; supplier or printer advice plus a sample decides.
Decision factors
Product weight, shipping vs shelf, soft-touch or foil plans, cost band. There is no single “correct gsm”. Higher weight is not always better—fold and finish compatibility matter.
What to put in the brief
Board type (e.g. FBB/SBS note from your supplier), target gsm range if known, inner insert, window, finish. Printer / supplier spec wins.
Next step in Grapxo
Open the studio from the cosmetic packaging page. Grapxo is a vector engine, not an image generator. The serum and cream box, dropper-airless brief and soft-touch vs matte pages are also useful. Questions: info@grapxo.com
