Label

What is a wrap-around label?

A wrap-around label is a single label that wraps all the way around the body of a bottle, jar or tube. Its two ends are overlapped and bonded, so the whole circumference is designed as one surface. This is what sets it apart from a front-and-back two-label layout.

In a wrap-around label the design is built on one long strip that covers the entire circumference of the product. The flat size of the label is calculated from the diameter and height of the container, so you have to think about the whole surface that runs around the pack, not just the front.

The two ends of the label meet and overlap; this overlap zone is the seam. Critical logos and text should not land there, because readability suffers where the ends lie on top of each other. The target overlap should be decided in advance and confirmed with the application line.

Its difference from front-and-back labels is that it offers a single continuous surface. That allows a panoramic composition and a continuous pattern around the pack. The areas that carry product information are planned inside this surface; which information goes where depends on the label layout and the required content.

On tapered or narrow containers the flat layout may not be a plain rectangle, and the sizing calculation differs. The label material, the container surface and the application method also affect the result. For a new product it is therefore safest to discuss the container and the application line with your printer first.

How you do this in Grapxo

Grapxo produces a print-oriented vector label surface; it makes no claim of automatic fit for every bottle. Write the size into the brief; Grapxo calculates the overlap from the circumference, and the printer confirms it against the application line.
